Moses baskets

Hi all, looking for Moses basket suggestions for my 9 week old. She hates her cot and WILL NOT sleep in it for any substantial amount of time. I’m so scared of falling asleep holding her, have been looking at putting sleepy head into the cot as my sister did with hers but it’s not worth the risk to me - Although probably no riskier than having her in the bed.

Ideally something not too expensive that is portable and safe for overnights.

Hoping a smaller cot might work as we’ve tried everything else, not really wanting to co sleep as our bed has a weird cover we can’t detach which causes it to be uneven.

No Moses basket suggestions as my babies grew out of theirs before 9 weeks (despite being tiny!) - do check the size.

But I know what you mean about the cot seeming too big - my solution was to lie them across it which must have felt cozier.

But I mainly (safely!) co slept.

We still use a Moses basket, just a cheaper one around £50 someone gave us. She’s 5 months and still using it sometimes. She sleeps at night in her next to me crib which has mesh sides.

My older dd was terrible for sleep though. Wouldn’t entertain a Moses basket, crib or cot. We went between the pram carry cot and a bouncer for her when desperate!

This is my worry @YouHoooo as she’s quite long so will make sure I double check! Sideways in the cot is interesting! I might try that but I think it’s too small - she hates it’s so much, she’s such a good sleeper on us and in the pram but that cot is the devil to her 😂

Thanks @BellaTheDarkOverlord good to know the cheaper ones are decent! Also, I remember you from the conception boards 💓💕 how lovely!

If she sleeps well in her pushcair, i would just use that for bedtime sleep, the bassinet part - no different to a moses basket

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 09/09/2023 19:27

@thelma57 That’s lovely! It feels so long ago 😊

thelma57 · 09/09/2023 19:28

You know, I never even thought of that @Youcancallmeirrelevant (I blame the sleep deprivation) would this be on the floor or in the exciting cot do you think? Would feel bad putting her on the floor 😂

Schnuggle do a Moses basket that lasts until 6 months. Both my babies slept brilliantly in them and they were both big babies.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 09/09/2023 19:46

I would put it in the cot, might help when you want to transition to cot. My daughters moses basket always stayed in the cot

Aldi do a great sized Moses basket for about 20 quid. Comes on a rocking stand. Mine were in it until about 8 months old.

Mine hated the moses, the mattress was too thin and uncomfortable. He outgrew it also within 10 weeks. We found he tolerated a next to me much better, it was smaller than a proper cot. To get him used to it we would warm it first and use one of our t shirts or a large muslin kept down my top as the fitted sheet. We also got one that could be rocked by hand so would do that for a few mins at first and then phased it out. Swaddling also helped us until he could roll and laying him down asleep, but that did create some issues with phasing both out later on

@ word finder It's understandable to feel worried about falling asleep holding your baby and looking for alternatives. Moses baskets could be a good option as they are portable and safe for overnights. Hopefully, you'll find a solution that works for both you and your little one.
