Dummy troubles!

Hi all,

After a rough start with sleep, my 11 week old is now a fantastic sleeper. She has just started sleeping through the night in the last week or so. However I’m starting to notice she’s waking for the dummy during the night and some naps. It’s not every night at the moment but it seems to be getting more often.

The dummy was a godsend for us in the early days (and nights!) as she has CMPA so was very colicky. She’s now much more settled since having her new milk but is very much attached to her dummy. I try to only give it to her at nap times and bedtime, unless for some reason she’s very upset.

Anyway, my question is, does anybody have any tips to either remove the dummy completely at her age (I’m nervous! 🫣) or to stop the night wake ups? She’s a great sleeper and as much as the dummy has been a great help I don’t want it to now become a problem and interfere with her sleep.

Thanks!

With my first I removed the dummy cold turkey at 12 weeks, but I just replaced it with more rocking to get her to sleep. So I then sleep trained at 16 weeks to get rid of the rocking and get her to sleep unassisted. My second is now 11 weeks as well and has a dummy- I’ve decided to keep it until 16 weeks and when we sleep train get rid of it then, to save having to put it back in every few hours at night.
I’ve read the other option is to keep it and just get through until 7/8 months and then the baby can put it back in themselves, then you can get rid when they are 2 years old and can explain dummy goes to dummy fairy or whatever you chose.
If you don’t wanna sleep train (it’s not for everyone) I’m not sure how you would get rid of dummy now, I’ve been Googling myself for this question with little success! Sorry this probably doesn’t help, just my experience
