Baby sleeping bags

DD is 6 months and has nearly outgrown her infant sleeping bags. She’s currently in a 1tog one and seems to be about right for temperature. We need to buy her new sleeping bags but I can’t find any that have adjustable sizes after 6 months. I have tried a few brands which all run 6-18 months and DD’s head fits inside, so obviously they aren’t safe to use. Her baby ones had little poppers under the arm to adjust - can you get that in bigger size sleeping bags? I’ve seen that Purflo do a 3-9 month one which might be a good compromise, but I don’t want to spend £40-£80 for the next two months (and she’ll probably want a warmer one before then anyway). I was hoping with 6-18 months we could get some more use next summer. What does everyone else do?

Have a look on Vinted or Facebook marketplace for 2nd hand ones in the right size.

Different brands can be bigger or smaller. I'm currently selling JoJo sleeping bags on Vinted that are market as 18-36m but my 22 month old is too big for.

Also have a look at the ones that zip up the front - I always find them more secure around the head/neck so that they don't disappear down inside.

Deffo recommend vinted, I got a slumbersac for the winter and aden and anais for the summer and seem a good fit.

I used a woolino one, for just over 2 years. It was pricy, but amazing

violetcuriosity · 23/08/2023 07:27

The tommee tippee ones have 3-9month size. I always get my sleeping bags from Vinted, they're probably one of the only things that are guaranteed to look almost new because let's face it no one feeds their baby any food in them!

Sanch1 · 23/08/2023 07:57

Could you put your own poppers on?

SnapdragonToadflax · 23/08/2023 08:06

Definitely get them second hand, they're so expensive new. Because I bought them second hand I could afford to buy a few different togs and had spares.

My favourites were the Aden & Anaïs ones, they were so soft.

Have you tried the togged sleepsuits instead? They are great. Once I discovered them, I turned my back on the bags! They are also great for when baby starts walking. My 19 month old is still in these and they do them up to 2 years I think. Usually they are so expensive but the ones from Argos (Tu) are only £13.
I've got 1.5 and 2.5 ones. Here's one and another

Buy Green & Navy Star Quilted 2.5 Tog Sleepsuit 18-24 months | Sleepsuits and pyjamas | Tu

Buy Green & Navy Star Quilted 2.5 Tog Sleepsuit 18-24 months at Tu. Thousands of products for same day delivery, or fast store collection.

This.

you can buy sets of poppers like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/ilauke-Plastic-Buttons-Fasteners-Poppers/dp/B07RV2MQYG/ref=zg_m_bs_g_3063859031_sccl_7/261-8134122-9600925?psc=1 which involve no sewing whatsoever. Or there are cheaper metal snaps if you are up for a bit of hand sewing.

I’m frightened of using my own poppers and her somehow swallowing them. I realise this is absurd, but I have PNA/D and really struggle with anxiety around her night sleeps. And I’m not sure it really helps around the neck?

Definitely happy to get second hand on Vinted, but I can’t return them so need to make sure they do what I want. She’s in Aden + Anais at the moment, has also had Purflo, Tommee Tippee and Next. Happy with all of them, but not particularly brand loyal! I’ve bought and returned from John Lewis and Vertbaudet because of the lack of poppers. Maybe Mori via Vinted…?

I hadn’t, thanks! Hadn’t clocked that they come in lightweight togs to be honest. Thank you.

Tommee Tippee do a 3-9 month size. I bought a couple on Vinted for a couple of £ each.

sunflowerandivy · 24/08/2023 12:11

The supermarket brands do a 6-12 month and are a bit better size wise for infants

QueenOfWeeds · 24/08/2023 16:53

Thanks! Have ordered two tommee tippee 3-9 on Vinted. I think she’ll want a heavier weight one by 9 months, which will then need to go to about 18/20 months if the weather is as it has been this year, so I don’t mind spending a bit more on a heavier tog. Or hopefully by then her head will be big enough to not slip through the neck hole. I don’t even think she’s a particularly small baby?! 80-90th ish for length, and 50th for weight.

I love John Lewis sleeping bags. Great quality and they have those little side poppers usually.

What size do you have? I ordered 6-18 months and no side poppers - they do state this on the website, but I assumed there was an alternative fastening and there isn’t.

I have the John Lewis 6-18 and there are no side poppers. That said, my not even 4 month old is in these now for a couple of weeks and his head wouldn't go through the hole even though they seem a lot bigger than the 0-6 size.
