Anyone else out there with 2 year old's who are up at the crack of dawn. I've always put my 2 year old to sleep at 8pm and he'll be up 5:55-6am. We've tried earlier bed times and later bed times and no matter what its always between that 5:55-6am. Please tell me he's gonna sleep in someday 😭😭😭😭 from a tired mama. Idk what to do anymore

Is he still napping, OP? We had a sleep consultant who advised that sometimes early wakes are actually because they are tired, she suggested bringing bedtime forward by half an hour (you can do this in increments).

EmmaOvary · 17/08/2023 12:16

Sorry. Just read your OP properly (sleep deprived here too) and I see you’ve tried that already.

Sindy99 · 17/08/2023 12:19

So he actually still naps from 12:30-2 or if he really fights it from 1:30-3. Yeah being sleep deprived is not easy 😭😭😭😭 I get it

Is he still napping and when you say you’ve tried earlier and later bedtimes, how long for?

TropicalTrama · 17/08/2023 12:21

X post - he’s likely tapping out his overall sleep needs in a 24 hour period then. Time to drop the nap or if he really can’t get through without it I would cap it to 45 minutes and have him up by 2pm absolute latest.

VivaVivaa · 17/08/2023 12:21

By 2 is he closer to 24 months or 36 months? I was caping naps by 2nd birthday and they were gone before 2.5 - DS consistently slept until past 7am with a 7-8pm bedtime after dropping it.

Sindy99 · 17/08/2023 12:24

He is closer to 24 months. I thought about dropping the naps but when he doesn't nap he will get super cranky so I thought maybe it wasn't the time. See he woke up at 5:55am and it's 7:24am right now and he's very cranky and tired. 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

Solidarity! My 3 year old is waking overnight and at 5am and that’s without naps. sometimes it is just a phase? But I’d maybe reduce the length of the nap to an hour and see if that helps? If he’s cranky anyway, might help? Also I haven’t tried this but apparently they have 45 min sleep cycles and if you wake them gently (or nearly wake them) before the usual wake up time )maybe 10 mins before - you can get them to go into the next 45 minute cycle. Like I say, I’ve never tried this but it might be worth a try?

If it's any consolation my DS just turned 2 and has been waking at 4:30-5 for a while now! NOTHING I do has stopped it. We've capped naps to 1.5 hours and it hasn't made any difference. We have the gro clock and when he wakes I just go in, keep things calm and lay down with him until the clock signals it's time to get up. I'm hoping after a while and once he is slightly older these things will kick in and he'll start sleeping longer but for now I've just accepted this is my life now but it won't always be this way

My 2.10 year old sleeps from 8-6 as the norm. The only way I survive is going to bed by 9.

Louk1234 · 30/10/2023 01:44

2 yr old waking up throughout the night, wanting to get into my bed. Can anyone help? Use to sleep 7pm-6am, lunchtime sleep 1.5hrs always up by 2pm. Literally just screaming in the middle of the night, mummy’s bed or wants me to lay down with him. Single parent, working full time, barely getting any sleep and not functioning
