We ruined our routine! HELP!

8m DD has been a very solid sleeper, three 40 min naps a day and v long night time sleep. We had to attend a family event a week ago, showed our faces and got home as close as we could to bedtime… but alas, she was awake til 10pm!

This whole week has been a nightmare. She’s not napping during the day, and not sleeping at night. She’s gone from 16 hours a day sleep, to 8 hours! She’s absolutely exhausted, her eyes are red, and she’s happy, but manic. This disruption has coincided with her ability to stand, so she’s pulling herself up in her crib, and that’s not helping.

Please help, the poor little thing is desperate. She won’t sleep being held or shushed, or driven around in the car. If we go to comfort her, she is delighted to see us and is laughing and wanting to play, which of course ends in tears because she is absolutely wiped out.

There’s a high chance that she would have got out of routine anyway with her development to standing, it often happens when they learn a new skill.

what I found was just as we had a really solid routine sorted there would always be something that disrupted it and left us in despair.

don’t give yourself a hard time, you didn’t ruin it.

You didn't ruin the routine, babies change routine all the time ,you just have to roll with it.

16 hours sleep sounds a lot for an older baby anyway. Don't worry about the baby. The one thing I have learnt from ds is it's you who suffers with the lack of sleep, not the baby. They will always get what they need, probably to a schedule/in a location that is very inconvenient for you.

Everything becomes more predictable from when they're on one nap a day.
