4 year old late bedtimes

Hi everyone

I have a 2 year old and a 4 year old. My 2 year old has always been a brilliant sleeper. My eldest 5 in January and is due to start school in September so I'm hoping this changes.

Once he is asleep he is asleep for the night but getting him to sleep is the issue And always has been.

I can lay with him for around 2 hours until he eventually goes. He won't go asleep unless I'm in the bed with him.

I have actually stopped forcing it and kind of let him play in his room for an hour or so delaying his bed time so I can get jobs done around the house or whatever. It is 9pm now and I've just got into bed with him, I would imagine it will take best part of 45 mins before he falls asleep. I am worried I am not giving him enough sleep time by allowing him to stay up late. Generally wakes up around 7.30-8am.

Could have written this post myself!

No advice but lots of sympathy and hope my reply gives this a bump 😊

Tearing my hair out… took her up to bed at 8pm, stories, chat and lights out. But she’s still awake. I was hoping that once it started getting darker in the evenings we would get a reasonable bedtime but so such luck so far….
