4 month old flapping at night time

Hi everyone, wondering if someone can help as I have asked all my friends with babies and no one has experienced similar. My son is 4 months and is going through the sleep regression at the mo. But for the last week or so just at night as he is about to fall back asleep he starts to flap around… sometimes he startles but then his startle turns into a flap? The only way I can explain it is he looks like he’s trying to fly away and flaps like a bird 😂

whilst he’s doing this he’s half asleep but wakes himself up. He also rubs his eyes a lot. I assume this is because he’s so tired?

ive tried shussshing and patting etc even having to pin his arms down as it kind of looks like he has no control over it?

weirdly doesn’t do this for his day time naps. Just at night time!

has anyone else got a flappy bird baby?

could it be he’s found his hands / arms and learning how to use them maybe?

@CEJenkins I know this was a while ago but I’m having this exact same problem - only at night time and she is 2 months old. Did you baby ever stop doing this? It stops me from sleeping as it goes on for most the night!

My DS used to slam his legs down, which sounds similar. I think it's a self-settling thing. He stopped after a few weeks.

My baby used to do this at around 2 months old. I think he probably did it for about 4-6 weeks intermittently then it stoppped, probably when he had full control of his arms.
