Nap help!

Hello - looking for some advice about a nap schedule for my 6 month old.
he’s always been a cat napper (30mins) even in pram / car etc. He can handle quite long wake windows - easily 2.5 hours now.
Hes currently having 3 naps a day but they are increasingly becoming a battle especially 2 and 3. I find if I go in and resettle him he can extend his first nap to 45mins/1hour.
his schedule currently looks like:

5.30/6 wake
8/8.30 nap (1 hour hopefully)
11.30 nap (30mins)
2.30/3 nap (30mins)
6.30 bed

If his last nap ends any later than 3.30 he won’t be tired for bed. It usually takes 30/40mins to settle him for 2 and 3 which makes me think he needs longer awake.
my question is if I extend the wake window before number 2, I won’t fit in nap 3 so he will be on a two nap schedule but with potentially a log window before bed (could be 5 hours at least?!)
has anyone had this issue and what did you do?
how soon did you move to two naps?
is there any chance he will extend his first two naps once we lose the 3rd?
