naps in crib

My little boy is 11 weeks old and from about 8 weeks old he’s just flat out refused to nap in his crib. He sleeps in his crib absolutely fine - won’t fall asleep on his own yet but will be rocked to sleep and placed into crib and then proceeds to sleep fine at night time but during the day he will be rocked/held for same amount of time (20 ish minutes so into deep sleep) then placed into crib and he wakes up straight away! how does he know the difference between being put down for the night or being put down for a nap? we do the exact same thing at night as with naps - white noise, sleep sack on so all associations are the same but for some reason in the day he wakes straight up and it’s only posing an issue as then he is very hard/impossible to settle afterwards so ends up only having a 20/25 minute nap if we attempt to put him down whereas if i left him on me for a contact nap he would easily and happily sleep for 2 hours but this is unideal for getting stuff done it means i can only do things when he is awake but this is hard given his wake windows only being about an hour to an hour and a half! any advice on getting him to sleep in his crib during the day would be appreciated!

We do naps in the pushchair downstairs, so they're used to normal noise. Can you get a sling so he can sleep and your hands are free?

Babies use different part of their brain for day sleep and night sleep until about 10 months old

Which is why you can have brilliant sleep and terrible naps or vice versa

that’s so interesting i didn’t know that! yeah he sleeps well at night but always has rubbish naps

we tried naps downstairs in the moses basket and this used to be absolutely fine up until about 8 weeks then he just stopped being able to sleep in it or anywhere during the day besides on me or my partner! i do have a sling but he doesn’t love being in it unless he’s asleep so sometimes fights the nap a lot because he is quite wriggly and can’t wriggle so much in the sling! the sling occasionally works but not reliable lol

At 11 weeks old, your little boy is still adjusting to his sleep routines, and it's normal for him to have shorter naps during the day.

he would nap for longer if left on me but if put down he wakes up straight away that’s kind of the problem i don’t mind short naps cos sometimes he will be on me and still wake up after 30/45 mins so that’s obviously all he needed but if he’s been sleeping on me for an hour and i put him down he wakes up straight away and very upset as if his sleep was interrupted and usually falls asleep again if picked up so the issue is sleeping in the crib in the day time really
