Moro/startle reflex in newborn

DD only a day old. She had a good 5 hour sleep
When born, ever since if I put her down in the cot she is NOT happy. She has an almost constant startle reflex. Wakes herself up. Freaked me out a bit as she's my 2nd & didn't have this with my first but Doctor assured me it's normal despite her arms flailing around everywhere. Which is great but slightly worried about the possibility of only getting an hours sleep a night like last night! Anyone had this with their LO? Did it last months?!

Congratulations on your little girl OP. Yes I think it’s very normal and when you think of the sudden change of living environment from being tucked up in a watery, dark, very enclosed, soft place, she is now dealing with what must be a massive shock to the system. Literally her whole world is different in every, single regard. I’m surprised that all babies aren’t flinging their little arms and legs out and wondering what the heck just happened . I’m sure it’ll settle soon as things start to feel a bit less weird. I hope you get some sleep very soon.

@Sugarplumfury Bless you thank you for your lovely response. You're right, just so surprised I never had this with my first!
