Napping in the car - planning a route!

Hi all,

i know a lot of parents like myself like to use the car as away of helping little ones have a nap or get to sleep in the evening. Not sure about you but sometimes having to think about them and making sure they are ok, as well going along an appropriate route that will help them fall asleep and get the length of nap they need a bit tricky. It got me thinking, is there an app that could generate a route for you based on journey time help at all? I’m terrible and judging how far to drive to make sure they get the right length nap and not too long for instance, like driving for an hours nap then realising I’m an hours drive from home and then have to try and keep them awake!

let me know if you’ve heard of anything like that or what you suggest

I think you're overthinking this a bit. I just drive where I want to go, and baby naps on the way. If they need a bit longer I just drive around for a bit, get a drive through coffee or something. Or I park up, and scroll on my phone 😆 and if they stir I might drive on a bit. I wouldn't plan a route to drive on so my baby can nap the whole way. I also think it's pretty bad for the environment to drive for an hour so a child can sleep. Also bad for me to be sat on my butt all that time so I try to do a pram walk instead.

we use the pram as well but sometimes poor lad can’t drift off or can’t stay asleep as long, the drone of a car journey seems to help him stay asleep for longer. And also in the evenings as well, summers ok but winter we really needed the car.

We’ve had a few occasions where we’ve gone out for the morning and we’re only half an hour from home but it’s not quite a long enough journey for his midday nap, and working out a slightly longer one is a bit tricky.

dunno just wondered if there was a solution out there.

also I just bought electric…feel less bad about the environment now 😉.

I use Apple Maps when I need directions and it usually offers 2 or 3 alternatives with the differing lengths of time the routes take.

But agree with pp, if my children napped in the car then they napped. If they were too grumpy to go out we stayed home and if they were happy and normal we made it work with pram/sling naps and 10 minutes here and there in the car.

Oh and if we were only half an hour away and heading home I would either set off back slightly earlier or play exciting music and singing games to keep them awake until we got home and I could put them down there.

I would never change the route and drive longer for a nap - although I have hit a drive through for a coffee and parked in a shady spot before :-)
