5.5month old and third nap!!

Is this a time they could drop the third nap?!
Totally get all babies are different, but this is turning into a nightmare.
He used to nap fine, x3 a day all 1/1.5 hours.
Now over last week he seems tired at his last nap and when I put him down he just cries and cries until I go back in then he’s just smiling at me!
Do I start pushing his morning nap back and going down to 2?!
Hate day time sleep! My first never napped or slept at night and I’m so scared it’s happening all over again!

Hi @Kathryn91 they say sleep begets sleep. So the more sleep in the day, the more sleep at night. Not sure how true that is! But, personally, I put my baby down in the day, the second she shows tired signs - rubbing eyes, sucking thumb etc, she usually goes down immediately (now on three naps a day, she’s just come down from four and she’s seven months old) and she then goes to bed at 5:30pm and sleeps 13 hours a night too.

My routine is roughly;

7am bottle
7:30 nap
10:30 bottle and nap
1:30 solids and nap
5pm bottle and asleep for the night

Best of luck 🤞🏻

@FoodFann
Thankyou so much for replying!
i put him down for his usual nap this morning but he completely refused. Ended up going down at 9.45, I then put him down at 2.30 and both times he’s had no fuss. No dummy or white noise needed so I think he’s deffo cutting it out.
I took your routine last night and put him to bed an hour earlier and he slept through so Thankyou!!

Yay! Well done for getting him down an hour earlier. Tbf 9:45 and 2:30 sound perfectly reasonable to me for naps, especially if he’s getting a good solid night too. Good luck tonight!

I think it's a bit early for a nap drop tbh.
Sleep begets sleep isn't actually factual, there is only so much sleep in a 24 hour period that a baby needs so once they've reached that then they won't want more.
However, that age is quite difficult with naps as they are becoming more aware of everything and don't want to miss out so getting them to nap/bed can be quite tough.
My DD was a nightmare around that age and she would always end up overtired, so lots of crying. DS is 6 months and is the same.
They also both went/going through cat naps of about 30 mins which were/are very annoying but also very common

My first baby was having 5 naps each day at this age but not sleeping until a bit later. My second baby is exactly this age and she has probably 3 a day then sleeps 8-8 with one wake up to feed. I thought she wasn't having enough so it's reassuring to see it's not unusual,

Too early for 2 naps. Too early for strict daytime routines.

My daughter is 7.5m, sometimes has 2 naps, sometimes 3, dependant on tiredness. Heck, she has even and 4 naps if her naps were too short. I go with the flow. She has a bedtime time; give or take 30m-1h. Wakes up quite a few times in the night, perfectly normal.

They defo go through an 'aware of the world, I want to stay awake/not miss out' few weeks around that age. And then sleep is interrupted again when they learn a new skill :)
