Does anyones 3 year old go to bed around 9pm?

My daughter is a nightmare at bedtime & will mess about for over an hour, however if I put her to hed alot later (like 9pm) she will go to sleep pretty easily.

It just seems so late for a 3 year old!!

My DS is nearly 4 and is generally in bed for 8 but will quite often not sleep until 9pm, or later especially if he had a nap (which he sometimes does at nursery)

Mine was much earlier, but he's one of those children that rise at 6am even if they've stayed up until 10pm for a family wedding...

My DNice does, but she’s also up at around 9am. It’s intentional, and apparently more usual in Spain (where they are) for kids to be up for adult dinner times.

Not sure how it works when they go to school!

My 3ro was like that - now at 6 she goes to bed about 10. She's not an early riser but is fine for school. I just learned not to worry about it.

Also should say she's easy going and no bother to look after

Thanks for replies, reassuring to hear it wouldn't be totally unusual for her to stay up abit later.

My 4yo is flat out at 7.30 but he’s got to be up at the crack of dawn for nursery so he’s shattered by tea time.

My 2 year old goes at 9! If she has a nap it's even later.

toddlermum27 · 08/07/2023 22:00

Yes if he has a nap in the car - so I try to avoid that at all costs!

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 08/07/2023 23:19

My 3yo twins are rarely asleep before 9pm (we generally start bedtime stories etc 8.15ish). They are usually up around 7am and don't nap any more.

I've tried earlier but they just end up mucking around and riling each other up, so I go with the later bedtime and don't sweat it.

MucozadeOnLucozade · 08/07/2023 23:28

Same here, no matter what time we start bed routine, child just doesn't fall asleep until late. Now even at almost 10 years old, it is not unusual to fall asleep 10:30/11pm. I have just decided that's how he's programmed and he has slept through every night since 7 weeks old and dropped all day naps at age of one.

Kids are not robots and there are some with odd sleep programmes. Just don't worry about it. Give them a book to read in bed.

MucozadeOnLucozade · 08/07/2023 23:31

In fact on Friday evenings I go to bed before child and he switches light off when tired!

Gowlett · 08/07/2023 23:35

My son has never gone to bed early. 9 / 9.30 here. He doesn’t get up early either, though. It would be pointless putting him in earlier as he will just be in & out, no matter what routine we try. He eats his dinner with us, too. I was the same as a kid.

thebloodycatwontstopmeowing · 08/07/2023 23:50

6:30/7 but that's no daytime naps and up at 5:30 (no matter what time he goes to bed!)
