I know I probably shouldn't complain but just checking it's ok. My LO is 6 weeks old today snd slept through 8 hours straight last night. She is exclusively breastfed. Just wondering is there any others doing similar or should I be concerned?

Some relevant questions are: is your baby gaining weight, are they eating well at other times, have they plenty of wet/dirty nappies, are they alert/energetic at other times?

I understand the worry, if you've any concerns I would phone a breastfeeding advice person (I was forever asking things!)

@wildfirewonder she's otherwise well, tracking weight, feeding well during the day with regular wet and dirty nappies. Given last night was the first I'll monitor the next few nights and see how we get on.

I still recall calling the health visitor twice as my da was sleeping so much, he’s a strapping 19 yr old and still loves his sleep!
He was sleeping 12+ hrs by the time he was 12 weeks old, hopefully you just have a baby that loves it’s sleep!!

My eldest first slept through the night at 3 weeks old. Exclusively breastfed and putting on loads of weight. She didn't do it consistently in the early days, but was a very content baby and a good sleeper generally.

The second was a whole different story.

I'm sure your baby will be fine op.

Our eldest first did this at 8 weeks (on Christmas Eve!). As long as they're doing well in themselves, tracking their weight and not being lethargic, it's fine. Enjoy! We didn't see it coming when our second decided sleep was not for her.

Mine started sleeping 6ish hours around 7 weeks and by 3 months had reliably slept 7-9 hours for a good few weeks. Little did I know that this is actually pretty typical! Babies tend to sleep pretty well as newborns, the trouble doesn't start until later. Of course, some cruise through never really having regressions, but most babies have periods of difficult sleep.

If her nappy output is fine and weight gain is on track then it's absolutely fine to let her sleep! Enjoy it!

The Rollercoaster of Real Baby Sleep

We (‘we’ meaning society) seem to think that baby sleep is linear. By that I mean we seem to think that it gets better as babies grow older. Or at least we believe it is static, ie. it …

She's still averaging 6-7hrs straight overnight. Getting weight checked with health visitor on Thursday which hasn't been checked since 4 weeks. she'll be 7 weeks tomorrow so should get a good indicator if the long stretches are impacting on her growth but hopefully all being well she's just a content baby and we can continue sleeping through the night for now.

My daughter was doing this at the same age and slept through the night from that point forward. She was ebf as well.

LysHastighed · 27/06/2023 22:34

My first did this for a few weeks, but it didn’t last, unfortunately.
