What to do about naps during family photoshoot?

Family have booked a photoshoot for grandkids but it’s at the same time my 1yo is either going down for a nap or would not long have been asleep, which means he’s going to have to skip a nap and they expect him to be happy about it and smile for a camera…? By the time we get home, it’ll be about 3.30pm which is normally the latest I’ll let him sleep until to preserve bedtime. I’m not what to do? He doesn’t sleep in the car or pram so won’t sleep en route. He’s definitely not ready for a 1 nap day. If I ever put him down too late for his morning nap he ends up overtired and only sleeps for 30 mins so I’m not sure pushing back his morning nap will help.

Any ideas? Am I unreasonable for being annoyed at the time they’ve booked it for? They asked what times were good and then ignored them.

yanbu they asked and ignored you. In your case if you go ahead I would maybe try and split the nap, wake up 15 mins early move your morning nap 30 mins earlier. Put them down for 50% of the lunchtime nap before the shoot. Then feed and get then to sleep for a 30 min catnap afterwards. It might eff up your night a bit but should be able to get back on track the next day and hopefully lo will be in a good(enough) mood for the shoot.

but equally wouldn’t blame you if you cancelled or asked to rearrange. When you mess with baby’s sleep it’s you who has to deal with the consequences not the gps and I think they forget it can sometimes take a day or two to get them back to normal. But only you can decide if it’s worth the hassle for the photos you’ll have together.

@OhBanana thanks. His normal nap schedule is 45 mins from 9.30-10.15am (I normally wake him as he started to refuse his afternoon nap so I could potentially let him sleep longer here) and then 1-1.5hrs at 1.45pm. Times vary slightly depending on when he wakes up for the day. Photoshoot is booked for 2pm 😩
