Sleep HELP

My LO is almost 14 months. Always been a shit sleeper but it is getting unbearable now. I don't know if this is just normal and I need to suck it up or I really need to do something differently. HELP!!!

He is currently refusing to go to bed before 10pm. He then in all fairness generally sleeps through until 7-7:30am. He will then nap after lunch from around 12:30pm. This will be typically 1-1.5 hours. And that's it.

He is so energetic and does not stop all day. He doesn't even sit still to eat and drink milk.

We tried sleep training months ago. Didn't really seem to work. Meals and milk/ snacks all always at set times but he just won't sleep.

Is this normal?! What are your LOs doing? We are so sleep sleep deprived and struggling to get things like laundry/ cooking etc done.

TIA!

Oh wow. I’m sorry as you sound like you’re feeling it, but at that stage if my first child in particular had slept 10-7, I’d have been absolutely delighted! I was up many times per night for the first 3 years. However I can see that if you’re not getting him to sleep til that late then you’re not ever getting much of a break from him. Does his dad share bedtimes with you?

@Beginningless thanks for your reply.

Yes, very lucky he is sleeping that long. It has been a recent development and has been so nice! We had multiple wake ups before then so do know what it's like.

Yes, his dad does help out. I think we need to figure out how we can tag team!

We have an almost 14 month old. I was at my wits end with her sleep a couple of months ago as I was mid chemo, DH was trying to work FT and look after us both so was knackered as well and it was unsustainable - constant night waking, co sleeping that didn’t work as she would sleep (and kept trying to yank the picc line out of my arm 🤦🏼‍♀️) we ended up getting 1:1 support over a few weeks from a gentle sleep consultant. We had to overhaul our entire day, it wasn’t just “sleep training” as I had imagined it. Worth every single penny and minute of the day we spent on it. Now she goes to bed at 6/6:30, gets up at 7, and recently transitioned to an hour and a half nap at lunchtime. I never thought I’d see it, honestly I was convinced we’d ruined our lives for years. We tried online guides etc but it took actual real time support to get it fixed. It’s soul destroying, I really really hope you get it sorted ❤️

I think this sounds quite normal and will change to going to sleep earlier as he grows older. Could you try a couple of days of really tiring him out after his afternoon nap like swimming etc? If he's tired enough he will sleep
10-7 without waking is an absolute dream to a lot of parents though! 9 hours uninterrupted sleep!
