6am flight

Looking for advice. Heading to Greece in sept with a just turned 2 year old. No choice in flights, outbound is at 6am. Guessing have to get DD up about 2.30-3 and no idea how to navigate it all. I've heard of dressing them for the flight for their night sleep so no change necessary but any other advice welcome.

Also 2 hour time difference do I need to worry? Will she self adjust? We'd love to shift her schedule for the holiday but unsure how. TIA

Just take her to the airport in PJ’s, take the plane clothes with you.
As for times, just go with the flow.

Plump82 · 02/06/2023 21:21

Surely you need to be at the airport at the time you're planning on waking her?

ohgeezlouise · 02/06/2023 21:36

@Plump82 2 hrs before flight and we are 10 min drive from airport so don't need to be there til 4am. We'll likely just pay for the valet parking which gets us right next to terminal aswell.

Careful with valet parking. Out windscreen was cracked when we picked the car up.

SarahLHs · 02/06/2023 21:40

We took our DD away last year when she was 2.5. Put her to sleep in her clothes with plans to move her from the bed to car at 3am without waking her but she woke up straight away and wouldn't go back to sleep as she was so excited. She crashed out on the plane at about 8am.

I honestly wouldn't worry about it too much, the excitement will probably carry them through until there's a good time to nap!

snoozingbaby1476 · 02/06/2023 21:41

What time are you leaving? 3.30ish? I would wake her at the last minute & get myself sorted. Let her travel in her pjs & take some spare clothes with you. Hopefully she will sleep for a few hours either on the plane if she's not too excited or when you arrive.

SarahLHs · 02/06/2023 21:41

Oh and we stick to UK times with regards to sleep and naps (also 2 hours difference) so she was going to bed at about 9/10pm and waking up at 8am. Nap at 3pm. Worked really well!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 02/06/2023 21:42

When I have any early flight I shower etc. the night before so it's up
And out when the alarm goes off. If I had to leave at 3.45, I'd be getting up at 3.15. For DD, I'd just lift her minutes before you get in the car. Take some clothes in your hand luggage. Do the valet parking/book fast track for security. Don't worry about the schedule, just play it by ear, honestly, just be prepared for her to be a bit out of sorts for a day or so.

ohgeezlouise · 02/06/2023 21:51

Thanks all for the advice. Shes currently 6.30am ish rise sometimes later sometimes earlier, nap at 12.30-1.45 at home then bed and asleep by 7.15ish so hopeful we can shift it, obv that schedule will
Likely have changed abit come sept, hopefully she'll tolerate a longer awake stretch. She refused a nap at nursery the other week and was up 11hr 40, not ideal but she was spritely until 20 mins before an early bed so I'm going worst case scenario it'll be an early bed and out like a light if she doesn't nap.

She does have fomo so I have no hope of us shifting her to the car! 😂 We've used the valet parking before and was fine but every time could be different. I'll def be doing as much day/night before, it's a brutal flight time.

Sounds like go with flow and be prepared for an overtired kid for abit.

We took our sleeping DD straight from her bed to the car in her pyjamas then just got her changed at the airport once we'd had breakfast. She then slept again once on the plane.

NatureNurture85 · 02/06/2023 22:02

Mine are older although have done similar when a lot younger. Generally we just get them up/ready and they sleep on plane etc. excitement of holiday carries them through.

but make sure you take spare clothes for yourself too on the aeroplane!

snoozingbaby1476 · 02/06/2023 22:05

I think you will be fine. She will be excited so the adrenaline will see her through until she crashes! My daughter was a bit older (3 I think) when we did a similar flight to Tenerife. She fell asleep for about 20 mins all day then slept really well that first night and got back into the routine.

ohgeezlouise · 02/06/2023 22:26

Thanks all, will just try to go with flow, easier for DH than me admittedly. I'm really hopeful too with trying to keep UK time and have abit more flexibility in evening with bedtime.

All the London airports are open. 6.00am flights are very common.

Loverofoxbowlakes · 12/07/2023 06:40

Even local airports start well before Dawn, our nearest has almost all it's morning flights between 6am-9am,airport never seems to close!

To avoid being late for your flight, please check in 2 hours before your flight time. This helps you avoid being overwhelmed and forgetting things. You can play mr mine while you wait after going through security.
