He used to be The World's Most Wakeful Baby during the day, then slept very well at night (we co-sleep). Suddenly, for the last 3 days, he's been having a 2-3 hr nap in the morning, a 3 hr nap in the afternoon, and then STILL sleeping all night. He's alert and active the rest of the time, and is eating ok etc, but this sudden sleepiness is freaking me out a bit! Please tell me there's nothing to worry about, and enjoy the fact I have more me-time?

hmm, not sure, but if he's generally well and happy, enjoy it. at that young age their patterns alter all the time.

I read somewhere they should have about 10 hours at night and 5 hours in the day at that age, which is quite a lot - and that's only an average so of course some babies will get more. Enjoy it!

He's definately not dehydrated is he? That can cause drowsiness

He's breastfed and seems to be feeding ok, and the soft spot on his head isn't sunk, si i guess he's not thirsty. that 10hrs/5hrs is what he's started doing - maybe he wasn't getting enough sleep before?

That sounds likely to me. My baby started sleeping much more from about 4 months - to be honest I was so relieved to finally get a break I didn't really worry! Like your baby, she was (and is) alert and active during her awake time and seems to feed well. This website quotes some approximate figures: www.slumbersounds.com/baby-sleep-patterns-info.htm
