Let's dispel the myth that 'everyone else's baby is sleeping through the night'- ha ha!

Mine was up at 11, 1.30, 3.30 and 5.30 last night- a good night for her (3 1/2 months).

Also, silly things you do when you are knackered: me, stopping the buggy in the middle of the street for 5 minutes cos I couldn't figure out how to put my gloves on......

How about yours?

My son didn't 'sleep through' every night until he was 2 and a half. Beat that!

belgo · 20/02/2008 09:23

Both my children aged two and a half years and four years were up last night!

TrinityRhino · 20/02/2008 09:27

the night before last dd2 who is nearly 3 was up 3 times 'becasue she wanted me'
and gecko who is 12 months was up (as usual) every 1 to 3 hours for feeding

scattyspice · 20/02/2008 09:28

DS was 3.5 yrs before he slept right through and DD is currently 2.5 and still gets up most nights.

StealthPolarBear · 20/02/2008 09:31

DS is 10 months and has gone through stages of good sleeping (up once etc). At the moment he's usually up twice, once in the early hours and once at about 5. It's uncertain as to whether he'll go back to sleep after that one. He also sometimes wakes when we go to bed for a last feed.

meep · 20/02/2008 09:34

dd normally sleeps from 7pm till around 6.30am with just a few wee meeps of wakefullness but nothing major - but not last night - awake at 2am, 4am and 5.50am when we finally got up - all due to sore teeth, gunky eyes and a big toxic poo, so I couldn't be annoyed with her!

StealthPolarBear · 20/02/2008 09:37

oooh meep!
I actually preferred when DS was younger and up 2 or 3 times, but he would feed and go straight back to sleep. Recently he's been so hard to settle, even if he only wakes once or twice, although that is getting better. I think when he was about 4 months I was having the 'best' nights.

onepieceoflollipop · 20/02/2008 09:43

Floppytulips thanks for this thread. dd1 was a good sleeper - dd2 who is 6 months is not, some nights I struggle. She has started waking around 2.30am for an hour or more, and it's getting me down. She had seemed less keen for a b/feed in the night but I am going to start feeding her again to see if it helps to settle her quicker.

Everyone in rl asks if you have a "good baby" - so helpful to read some honesty from the mums on here. Makes me feel that actually maybe I am not doing anything wrong. Sometimes I think it is to do with my parenting and I get upset. However dd2 is a happy little thing so this is just how she is for now.

Floppytulips · 20/02/2008 09:44

Before DD was born I just smiled pityingly at mums with huge bags under their eyes who cried 'sleep while you can!!' , and thought to myself, 'yeah right, I've read all the baby books, mine's not going to do that'. How naive can you be?

Love the idea of 'wee meeps' in the night, mine 'googles'...

Also meant to add that I tend to look blankly and vaguely at people who ask me questions. The other day the checkout lady asked if I wanted cashback. I stared for 10 seconds and then said "I don't know, what do you think?" (in a bewildered, rather than sarcastic manner)

onelittlespeckledfrog · 20/02/2008 09:45

We were up twice last night, and DD (7 months) has an inbuilt alarm clock to start the day at 5.50am. It's okay though - it's better than it used to be!

As for silly things - where to start! Yesterday I forgot that April existed in the months of the year. This morning I tried to pour yoghurt in my tea instead of milk. And the worst... when out with DD the other day, I put her in the car seat, then went and sat in the passenger seat, waiting to set off. After a few minutes I remembered I was on my own and had to shift to the drivers seat, praying that no one saw!

StealthPolarBear · 20/02/2008 09:46

opol - what did she say?

Piffle · 20/02/2008 09:47

11 mths here. He has slept through 12 hrs... Precisely twice. Its at least one waking usually two and often enough to be regularly three times. I have a school run everyday. Have more than once called a friends help in to do it for me due to double vision from tiredness. Dd has gone to school with between none and three pairs knickers on depending on my level of competence.

onepieceoflollipop · 20/02/2008 09:47

littlefrog lol; sometimes I worry that I have left dd2 in her car seat on the pavement and I have to turn round quick to reassure myself.

Sometimes I forget people's names - not new acquaintances, I mean dd1's name and close friends.

Floppytulips · 20/02/2008 09:48

That's hilarious speckledfrog!

I've done yoghurt in tea too, it's disgusting isn't it! I tried to pretend to DH that it was milk and he was not impressed

lol olsf!
My stupid things:

  • I can no longer, when speaking, remember common nouns. Last night I told dh I was going to doojie the wotsit and he knew I was off to mop the floor! (It's been going on a while!)
  • I once 'lost' £20 - I had drawn loads of cash out to pay some bills in person. The woman counted it and said I was £10 under, I was sure I was £10 over. I checked pockets and purse, she checked the floor in the shop. This went on about 10 mins then I went to count the money again. "£160, £180, £200, £240, £260" Mystery solved.
I have a degree in maths.
onepieceoflollipop · 20/02/2008 09:51

StealthPolarBear she smiled sympathetically as I obviously had my hands full with the 2 dds and I think I did look tired.

Pre dcs I worked nights and remember going into Sainsburys in a similarly vacant fashion after working 4 nights in a row.

onelittlespeckledfrog · 20/02/2008 09:54

I'm there too with the name forgetting, and the checking DD is actually in the car too! I have also invented about a hundred new 'I'm really listening to what you're saying' noises, whilst actually sleeping with my eyes open. This works well until asked a direct question that requires a response greater than 'mmmmmmmmmmmm', at which pointed I am busted!

onepieceoflollipop · 20/02/2008 09:54

SPB I have a similar problem - it makes dd1 either irritated or confused. "Come and have your breakfast dd1" - "but mummy it is lunchtime and I want a sandwich not cornflakes again"

I use any old noun in place of the correct one. dh can work it out, but a 4 year old's mind is more logical and pedantic and can't work it out.

onepieceoflollipop · 20/02/2008 09:56

olsf I can't get away with it with a 4 year old. She senses an opportunity and will ask an unsuspecting mummy "can I have 3 bags of sweets after breakfast?" "oh yes darling" - (default response) - she isn't impressed to be offered a banana as compensation.

PhDlifeNeedsaNewLife · 20/02/2008 10:01

10m, never had a whole night through. We did have a good almost-month with 1-2 wakes in night but if last night is anything to go by the teething wretchedness is back: waking at midnight, sobbing at 3, sobbing at 5, wake complete with dark circles under eyes at 7.

I'd say what stupid things I do when tired but... I can't remember.

onepieceoflollipop · 20/02/2008 10:04

This has made me feel so much better, I was very tearful this morning and wanted to stay in feeling a bit sorry for myself. Now I have perked up and am going to take dd2 out to her little baby music group which we love.

Wishing us all a better night tonight - 4 hours at a stretch as a minimum I hope!

hunkermunker · 20/02/2008 10:08

DS1 (3.10) came and scuttered round our bedroom (right round the bed to DH's side and back again) at 3.30am, then went back to bed.

He woke me up as he left the room, but didn't appear to actually need anything. I went into his room to check him and he had got back into bed and was fast asleep.

DS2 didn't wake up last night, but still doesn't sleep through reliably. He's 2.1.

Surroundedbysnot · 20/02/2008 10:12

Used a Parazone toilet wipe instead of the Andrex moist at 5.30 this morning. At least it was on me, not dd ...

StealthPolarBear · 20/02/2008 10:13

OUCH!
