I have just read this - https://takingcarababies.com/active-sleep-newborns
which makes a lot of sense to me. but now I’m wondering, how do I know when it is time to respond to my baby (5weeks old) before she is actually crying?

Active Sleep and Newborns

Newborns can be so active in their sleep. Let me show you what newborn sleep can really look like and why newborns might be so noisy and moving constantly during sleep.

With my DD I just go on whether eyes are open or closed. If her eyes are closed, I just leave her or pop a dummy in (this always settles her). We called it 'fight sleep' as she looked like she was having a boxing match. Once we realised she wasn't actually awake, we learned to just leave her to settle and got a lot more sleep as a result.

Do you swaddle? We also found this really helpful.
