8 month regression?

Hoping for some advice as my 8 month old LB has never been a great sleeper. We had him in a next to me until he was about 4/5 months when his sleep went totally to pot and I couldn’t cope with all the long wakes and difficult transfers (kept waking up on transfer no matter how long he was asleep for before transfer) and I just brought him into bed with me. We bedshared for a couple of months and then decided to try and move him to his nursery / big cot mostly because now he is a bit more mobile I’m not sure I’m ready to fully commit to bedsharing for the long haul - floorbed etc. We have had him in his nursery now for coming on 3 weeks. For the first two weeks it was going ok and he would go down for a longish stretch at the beginning of anything between 3-5hrs, but mostly closer to 3 and more often than not with a false start at the beginning after 45 mins and then would have a few wakes every few hrs throughout the night until he would come back into bed with us at 5am (this was mostly because after that point he could not be settled back into the cot). I will add that most night wakes take a couple of attempts to go back down as he mostly wakes on transfer so night waking were taking between 30mins - 1hr. My husband and I were sharing the wakes so so mostly manageable. In the past week literally bang on him turning 8 months he now wakes after 45 mins and then if we can transfer him back down it’s every 45 mins or we just can’t transfer him at all and after a few hrs of attempts he comes into bed with us. Nothing has changed from a routine perceptive and he doesn’t seem to be going through any development milestones - not close to crawling or standing and we’ve already got 4 teeth with no signs of the next set on the horizon.

Does this look like the 8 month regression and we just need to ride it out? I’m happy to keep bed sharing for now, but ideally want him back in nursery by July as we are travelling to visit family in Europe for 5 weeks and the bed set up won’t work for bedsharing then so he’ll need to be in a travel cot. I should add we are not interested in sleep training and he is EBF with feeds every 4hrs or so throughout the day and night.

thanks!
