Bedtime vs no bedtime as a child

Did you have a bedtime as a child (lets say, age 7-13 years old)? If so, what time was it?

Partner and I have been discussing.

I never had a bedtime, often took myself to bed around 9pm (definitely by age 8, possibly before) and never had a problem falling and staying asleep.

Partner had strict bedtimes, changed dependant on age, could never fall asleep at bedtime and still now, struggles to fall and stay asleep.

Could be completely unrelated to bedtime but I found it interesting.

We had a time to be in rooms but could then play or read as we pleased.

I had a strict bedtime but was allowed to read for a bit as long as I was in bed on time.

I was often awake reading until all hours because I was naturally a night owl. Still am.

Both of my dcs have regular bedtimes which we stick to. One is a night owl like me, the other is asleep within 10 mins of lights out. They've been like that since they were tiny so I'd say nature more than nurture.

Couldn’t sleep properly if I knew I had to be in bed by a certain time. I’d be in bed lights out by 8pm then up wide awake through the night. Parents relented and I’d take myself up around 8:45pm-9pm and fall asleep no problem

I had a strict bedtime and struggled getting to sleep, I used to read under the covers or watch my tv with headphones in until the early hours of the morning

I never had a strict bedtime, when I was a child my mum worked evenings and my dad did dinner & bath for my younger brother and I, and we either fell asleep on a floor bed type thing in the lounge while dad watched tv or went to bed and read for a while before lights out. All rather laid back and I don’t have any issues sleeping now & nor does my brother as far as I know.

We never had a strict bedtime. My brother would fall asleep around 9, I was probably more of a 10pm kinda person.
Both have zero sleep problems.
My mom also had a policy of not making less noise if we were asleep, and we both can sleep through anything (within reason, obviously, but a little noise doesnt bother us)
