My DD is 13m and since around 10/11m has been sleeping through occasionally, but more often than not waking once. Nothing seems to be wrong, but the pattern we are in is that I pick her up and bounce her back to sleep, put her down fully asleep. At the start of the night she goes to sleep independently.

In total I can be out of bed for 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. She’s not awake the whole time but she does seem really wide awake at the start. She sleeps in later the longer she’s been up, so ‘making up for’ the broken nights. When she sleeps through she wakes between 6-6.30. I have to cap her nap to 1.5 hours and I aim for 11 hours awake time across the day, otherwise she has proper split nights.

Just wondering how normal it is that the wake ups are so long. I’m struggling to function.

My DD did this for a while, and I think the issue was the picking up. She also went to sleep independently at the start of the night so I think when we picked her up to settle her in the night made it confusing for her. We switched to shushing and patting in the cot without picking her up and that fixed it in a few days.

Hope you find something that works! Split nights are awful 😞
