Crying after nap

DS 23 months has in the last month or so started waking up from his nap absolutely hysterical. This happens whether I wake him or whether he just wakes up naturally. He usually wakes up, has a second or 2 looking around and then becomes very very upset. This happens no matter where/how he fell asleep - could be in my arms, in his bed, in the car or in the pram.

It generally takes about 15 mins for him to calm down and this is usually just hysterical screaming. Sometimes he will let me cuddle him but other times he pushes me away so I just leave him on his own (obvs still there with him but not touching).

Generally he will just come out of it as quickly as it started and start playing/watching tv/ask for a snack etc.

I have tried feeding him before a nap in case it was hunger, having food ready immediately after the nap, offering drinks and distractions but just can't think what else to try.

Does anyone have any ideas/been through this before and can tell me there is an end point?!

Hey! I'm going through the exact same thing with my 14 month old. Did it get any better, and did you find out why this was happening?!
