16 month old naps

Struggling with my sons naps…

He is 16 months old and is currently having 2 naps a day, he wakes at 6:30, 1st nap at 9:45, 2nd nap at 2:30 (both an hour each) and bed at 7:30
I have tried him on 1 nap a day but he sleeps awful at night time so thought 2 naps would be best for now and he was waking about 3 times during his nap when I had him on 1 nap

I couldn’t get him down for his second nap today, I tried for 40 minutes and gave up so he was awake from 10:45-6pm 😩
I have recently tried to be strict with routine because I honestly believe the reason he wakes up a lot at night at night and takes a while to go asleep is because he’s over tired
I would say he is a high needs baby and he is very fussy so I feel like he would benefit from a strict routine but he just won’t stick to routines 😂

Any advice 😫

There is no way your 16 month old needs two naps. Refusing second nap clear sign. Persist with the one nap. Awake window of 5-5.5 hours. So if he wakes at 6:30, I'd stretch him to 11:30/12:00.

Pretty sure it's one nap a day by that age. So go 12-2 and cut out morning nap.
