8 week old suddenly not sleeping - please help!

Hi everyone,

Was hoping for a little bit of sleep advice for my 8 week old who has suddenly become nocturnal!

At the start he was sleeping from 10-12, 1-3 and 4-6 which was brilliant. I was getting 6 hours sleep a night - happy days.

In the last couple of weeks things have changed. He will go down in his crib (next to me) for the first two hour session but after that it’s a nightmare. I’ll put him back down and he’s awake within half an hour. The rest of the night is a battle of constantly trying to put him back down which will usually end up with him falling asleep on me which I’m really not comfortable with because I usually drop off too and I know it’s not safe.

He’s not generally crying or upset during this time. He will usually feed on me (or just suckle for comfort) fall asleep on the boob, I wait 15 minutes or so, transfer him and then he’s awake very soon after.

We are combi feeding at the moment due to issues establishing bf but he is generally exclusively bf at night unless my husband takes a feed. He wears a Love to Dream swaddle with a onsie underneath and I’m fairly certain he’s not cold because I do check him regularly.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

A knackered mum

xx

DS was like this, and unfortunately it didn't start to improve again until he was around 18 months and night weened 🙁 I figured afterwards the first 8 weeks must have been a fluke.

In terms of coping, the only way I survived in the end was to safely co sleep.

Hi!

not exactly the same but my LO’s sleep and napping went back a little at 7 weeks due to a growth spurt, apparently it’s typical they have one around 6-8weeks so could just be extra hungry/fussy due to this.

after a few days she went back to sleeping better :) hopefully it’ll get better for you too! Hang on in there x

It's a new born, it's normal, it will get better.
