22mo stopped self settling

Hi, looking for some advice if anyone can help.

My daughter is 22 months old and she’s been self settling herself to sleep for bedtime and naps since she was about 6 months old. She’s always been great- put her down in the cot and leave her to it, and she’d send herself off to sleep no problem.

About 3 weeks ago she started standing up in bed and crying as soon as we leave the room. We’ve tried going back in and lying her down but she just stands straight up again. She wants to be cuddled, so we’ve ended up picking her up and cuddling her in the rocking chair and then transferring her into bed when she’s asleep. She usually sleeps through but occasionally needs this in the middle of the night too.

While I’m happy to cuddle her, it can take anywhere from 10 mins to over an hour to get her asleep in her bed. I would like her to go back to self settling but it’s been 3 weeks now and she seems to have decided she wants to be cuddled every time now and I guess we have reinforced this. What do we do to get her back to self settling?

Could it be that she's teething molars? They messed up both my kids sleep until they fully broke through the gum. If it's that, you'll just have to ride it out and maybe give a dose of calpol and anbusol just before bedtime.
