4yo waking multiple times during the night

Our little boy is 4yo and will be 5 in July. He's never had any problems with sleep until he started school in September. He's gone from sleeping through 7-7 to waking multiple times during the night. Some nights he can wake 3 times even before 12pm and he seems to wake like clock work every 3 hours. He will lie there shouting myself or my husband. We have to sit in his room until he falls back to sleep which can be around 10 mins and we have to sneak back out the room. He has white noise on during the night as noises seem to affect him. I've spoke to sleep consultants on Instagram who say it's due to cortisol. Does anyone have any advice as we're at our whits end on what to do?? Thanks x

Hey I have no advice but just wanted to say you're not alone, my son is 3.5 and has been like this for maybe about a year 🤦‍♀️ EXACTLY the same xx

Have you tried telling him. ' Mummy and Daddy are getting tired and grumpy because you keep waking them up at night'. I did it with mine and they stopped disturbing me. I was quite astonished.

It seems like he's taking a little advantage of you being in the room to put him back to sleep and using that to his favour. Maybe try a reward system by offering him a favourite toy in the morning if he promises to stay asleep until 7am. Or you could go the other route and offer a consequence eg if you wake up, we'll lock the door (obviously don't leave him locked in all night)
