my 5 (nearly 6) month old has a little dependency on his dummy. Nothing major really, he's never needed it other than to get him to sleep at bedtime and occasionally for naps, however now that he's starting to roll I've been putting him in just a sleep sack. This is a major problem because he just yanks his dummy out and then starts crying! Tonight is our first night with the sleep sack, i held his arms for a little until he was pretty much asleep because if not he would just go straight for the dummy. How did you get your little ones off of the dummy for good, as this just won't work!

You may not like my answer!
My DC was exactly the same, and we had a tricky few weeks when the dummy would fall out and he would cry. She was still in my room so I would just pop it back in for her and she would drop straight off. After she learnt to put it back in the dummy was an absolute Godsend! She fell asleep independently for every nap and every night from then on in.
We were quite strict and kept the dummy for in the cot only, so it never affected her teeth or her speech. Just before she turned three, and so could understand, we talked about how she was a big girl and didn't need it anymore, and from that night on she never had it again, not a tear was shed.
I am a big dummy fan! Tho saying that, my other DC straight out refused to have one! So I guess like everything, they work for some but not all!

honestly that sounds perfect! he's nearly at the age where he's putting the dummy back in and not just chomping down on it, so maybe i will wait until then
