11 week old sleep trouble

Hello, we are exhausted with trying to get out 11 week old to sleep. During the day he will only catnap unless taken for a long walk outside in the sling where then he gets a proper nap. This isn’t always possible with the weather. He won’t go for a deep sleep if walked around inside. He needs to be walked around to sleep even for a catnap.

At night he will not sleep on his back, whether in his crib or co sleeping with us. We’ve tried both and at the moment are trying to co sleep but it’s not working. He needs to be walked or fed to sleep but when put on his back (whether in deep sleep after a few hours or in light sleep or drowsy but awake) he wakes up after a few minutes and cries. We have tried swaddling, cuddling him back to sleep, tilting his cot etc and nothing works. He only sleeps deeply on his stomach, lying on one of us. We have tried white noise, lights all out, etc.

when not tired he is a happy, chirpy baby so I’m not sure he has reflux or other issues.

any advice much appreciated.

Just to add that he also cries hysterically from about 4/5pm until asleep at 6/7pm and very difficult to settle, even when being walked around or fed to sleep

The not wanting to be on his back sounds like reflux. Do you ever hear him burp and swallow something back down? Is he spitty uppy otherwise? Mine was refluxy, mostly very obvious but also had some silent reflux. He was totally ok in the day but awful at night. Once I got him on infant Gaviscon things got a lot better for us! We were able to stop the medication just before he was 4 months old, but then it got worse again at 5.5 months and he then had to be put on Omeprazole as he had started solids and that combined with the Gaviscon made him constipated.

I really had to push it with the GP both times. The second time was especially infuriating as I'd taken him in and mentioned his reflux seems worse again and the paediatric nurse we saw just said "that's unlikely as we'd expect it to get better as he grows" Oh ok great, please send that memo to my baby's gastrointestinal system too 🙄
