2 year old split nights

My (nearly) 2 year old has always been a fairly decent sleeper with the odd hiccup here and there but the last couple of weeks it's all gone to pot
He'll wake anytime between 12-2 and sometimes doesn't go back to sleep until 5
Both me and my partner work full time so this is obvs a bit of a killer
Does anyone have any tips about what to do?
He has 1 nap which can vary from 45 mins to 2 hours depending what he's up to
Help!

My first thought would be to reduce the nap down to 45 mins max or drop it completely.
My 2yo has dropped her nap (she's 3 in March) and bedtime is so much easier! She does get up a couple of times a night but thankfully usually goes right back to sleep after being taken back to her bed (except last night, she was awake from 3-5 then came through at 6 🙄)

Drop the nap!

Yes definitely drop the nap

gingermum1992 · 21/02/2023 04:52

Dropping the nap doesn't seem to make a difference
It's so sporadic - sometimes he sleeps through and other times (like tonight) he's been awake since 1:30 (only just gone to sleep at 4:45)
I'm at a loss!

What is he doing when he wakes up?

Perfect28 · 21/02/2023 06:31

I say it's early to drop the nap tbh

Oh god this was hellish. We never discovered a pattern to be honest.

What I found best was just giving in to it. I read him books in low lighting for about an hour and a half before trying to get him to sleep again. I found spending the whole time trying to get him to sleep just broke me.

Mine went through it younger, definitely before he was walking. At almost 2 have you tried just a very physically active day to see if that helps?

Cut the nap but don't expect to see an impact for a couple of weeks.
