Turned into a good sleeper.

Really despairing of my second's sleep. I thought my first wasn't great - I now realise we had nothing to complain about! I used to shake my head in wonder hearing about babies who woke every 45mins. Well, now this is us.

DC2 is only 3m so I know we are still early days, but I'm struggling to see how it's going to get better. Even at their worst, DC1 was never this bad.

So please, can you tell me uplifting stories of how your bad sleeper became a good sleeper, and what you did (if anything) to help them?

Obviously not everyone agrees with this but my first was like that and we did controlled crying at about 10 months and he has slept through basically ever since - odd nightmare or illness but that's it. He's 6 now.

I think some kids just get it on their own and some just don't and need sleep training. He's the same in other areas too - we had to be proactive with potty training as well, he just wasn't going to be one of those kids who just asked to use the potty one day.

@Everydayitsgettingcloser your username is basically my life's motto right now!

Yes I think sleep training is something we'll have to consider. We can't survive on this little sleep in the long term. It's great that it worked for you

I am in the exact same boat OP with my 11 week old - sympathies! I have been trying to follow the Baby Whisperer techniques over the past few days to get her to nap and night time sleep in her crib and they have failed so far. She alwayd wakes at the 45 min point and won't settle again, even when I do manage to get her down.

The only place my DD will sleep is in her sling.^^

Dd2 woke about ten times a night for the first year. Sometimes after 45 minutes. 2nd year she woke about every 4 hours I think. 3rd year slept through and fine ever since

We also thought number one was a bad sleeper then we met number two who would wake up 20-25 times per night. However he was very specific in that he would only sleep whilst feeding so I spent my nights contorted into the next to me crib so he could feed on demand. We introduced a bottle so he could have mixed feeding (which wasn't easy and took 75+ attempts over a couple of months!) but after that he was a different baby (prob 6 months at this point) and started sleeping through. Unlike his brother (who got 45 mins of being rocked to sleep and put down), he could then be put in his cot and he would put himself to sleep within 5 minutes. So not sure if that's helpful as it was a specific issue but it was a total change and he's been a great sleeper ever since. Good luck OP!
