Won’t settle in moses - 3 weeks old

We got the next2me as a gift, but baby wouldn’t take to it ie as soon as she was put into it even asleep she would wake up instantly crying and not settle. I therefore bought a cheap moses this week and she seems to be napping it during day. She only manages 20 mins sometimes less, though the night she doesn’t take to it at all.

I’ll get hate but me and partner end up bringing her into bed, which stresses me as risks but we all sleep best this way!
i’d love for her to settle into moses but unsure how to do it? We always try through day to put her in for naps - once she falls asleep on me I put her in
she could sleep on me for hours and same in bed but the moses it’s like she knows!

That sounds completely normal to me.

I agree - very normal. Your baby is tiny and trying to get used to being in the world when they are used to the warmth, comfort and sounds of the womb. Mine is also 3 weeks old and exactly the same. It will change. Things you could try that might help: swaddling might keep baby feeling contained and comfy, warming the moses basket with a hot water bottle before transfer might reduce the shock of transfer off your body and place your hand quite firmly on their chest for a minute or two after transfer can also help. Don't despair if none of this works as this stage won't last. Lots of families choose to co-sleep with baby in bed with them and some people consider it really good for building a strong attachment. Yes, potentially less safe than sleeping on a separate surface in the same room but if you follow the safer cosleeping guidance from the lullaby trust there is no need to feel guilty about cosleeping. I'm doing it with my own 3 week old.

I feel your pain. Our next to me was an ugly ornament till my DS was about 5 weeks old. And I think we're hitting the 4mo sleep regression...

Try swaddling and testing different brands of sleepwear, placing a muslin that you've worn all day near DC's nose so they can smell you, put down bum 1st, at the edge of the cot so they can feel the wall not the centre where it's scary-big and persevere. They will sleep in the cot overnight, eventually. They have to.

We took shifts sitting up with DD until she was about 6 weeks old, then we'd get a stretch of 4 or so hours in the moses or next2me. She slept through the night at 10 weeks old. It's normal op, don't feel bad for co sleeping though. As long as you follow the lullaby trust guidelines, if it works for you then do it!

My ds hated the moses, tried him in cot and slept away! 💁babies don't make sense 😅

Second this - was just about to suggest the same thing, game changer.

Very normal.

You can use a t shirt you've slept in as a sheet. Then the next to me or Moses basket smell of you.

You can also do some basic 'sleep training' as well.

When baby is awake and happy, lightly swaddle baby. Cuddle them upright and slowly lower them onto a playmat keeping some light body contact while doing it.

Keep you face close and talk / sing gently.

If they cry pick them up and cuddle.

Do this for a couple of mins each day and each time move your face slightly away but keep talking.

It just helps them to get used to being on their back but also you be slightly further away
