Transitioning 8mo into own cot

I need help!

my 8mo boy is currently sleeping in a next to me cot (only just managed to get him out of our bed!). He has never been a great sleeper and has up until about 6 months only ever napped on me or husband.

i have managed to start getting him down for a nap during day in his next to me cot but I have to lie next to him the whole time because he keeps waking up in a panic if he can’t see me.

tried to do get him down for a nap during day in his own room/cot in the hopes of getting him in there over night but he just goes into major meltdown.

He loves to be touching my face (calms him down) when he falls asleep and in his own cot, this isn’t really an option.

sorry for the lengthy thread, had anyone got any advice please!!

It’s easier to fall asleep at night than during the day because the natural urge to sleep is stronger, so try at night first rather than for naps.

Also I constantly recommend Dr Ferber’s book (even if you don’t want to do sleep training, that’s only one part of it). It’s very good for understanding how sleep works.
