2 month old only sleeping for 20 minutes

Hi,

My 2 month old naps well in the morning, but starting in the afternoon she will only sleep for 20 minutes cycles before needing to be re-settled. We have tried everything from longer wake windows to ensure she’s tired enough to shorter wake windows to ensure she’s not over tired.

Holding her whilst she sleeps sometimes works but even then she can be very difficult to settle after the initial 20 minutes. Whilst I know it’s common for babies to want to be held, she can nap perfectly well without being held in the morning, so I don’t think this is the issue.

This goes on until well into the evening and sometimes close to or beyond midnight. By this time she’s absolutely exhausted, red eyes, very miserable etc.

The only thing that’s helped so far was the dummy - she took it well for one day and was the absolute dream baby, but then it seemed to stop having any effect.

I don’t think there’s any digestive issues.

I’m not necessarily looking for solutions but I just don’t understand this? It’s almost exactly 20 minutes every time. What could this be?

Any insight very gratefully received!

Thank you.

Hi, watching this thread. My baby is 11 weeks old and the first month she did good naps in the cot for 1-2hrs we are now stuck on 30mins unless I hold her... even then she stirs and I have to resettle. Yesterday afternoon she had a 20min nap then a 15min one at 4.30pm 🤯🤯🤯 She struggled to go down to bed in the evening.
I feel like the 4 month regression has come early.
