Half-day nursery and napping

First time poster!

My baby 13 months is starting to transition to one-nap days. VERY infrequent currently and he is mostly two naps a day, but preparing myself for ANOTHER transition!

The issue is that I currently have him in nursery for two half days a week in the morning so I can work. I drop him of at 8am and pick up at 1pm. He wakes up around 7am every morning +/- 30 mins.

At nursery he currently takes one shortish naps of 20-45 mins at around 10.30am. I will then bring him home for his nap at 2pm. At home his naps are 60-120mins (contact still!).

I imagine if he transitioned completely to one nap a day, he would want to start a long nap at nursery but starting at midday-ish. I'm worried I will be disturbing him if I pick him up at 1pm then when really he would need a 60mins+ nap.

I know there is not one solution but I'm wondering if anyone else has experience of a morning half-day at nursery and a one nap schedule. Thanks in advance!

My son does 4 mornings on a one nap schedule but he’s a year older than yours. The nursery offer the same session (8am-1pm) but you can collect whenever you like. I pick him up as soon as he’s finished his lunch (12.30pm) so he can nap at home. Could you not pick your son up early and let him nap at home? Then when he’s used to it push him back to 1pm?

@sleepslikeababy Thanks for the comment! I don't know if it's the sleep deprivation but I hadn't even considered picking him up earlier for a while and transitioning him to a later naptime gradually. It seems obvious when you say it! But it is super reassuring to hear that someone else has managed this.

I'll just have to see if I can juggle getting hours off work and also paying for the hour or so of childcare I can't use >.<

Thank you again for your kind comment and advice!
