Almost 8 month old sleep

Until this week, my almost 8 month old was a great sleeper. However since Christmas day his sleep has been getting worse and worse and I don't know how to cope with the lack of sleep.

Usually illness doesn't bother his sleep however he has an ear infection and is on day 3 now of antibiotics and still haven't seen an improvement.

He is also rolling a lot in his cot and this is keeping him awake. His dummy is also an issue and I lost track of how many times last night I had to replace it when he was crying it came out.

We have a good routine and he goes in his cot awake and can get himself to sleep. He also sleeps with a muslin comforter. We are going to get rid of the dummy but don't know whether to do it now or when he is better.

Anyone have words of advice on how to get through this. I'm worried our good sleeper has gone for good!

The whole first year is a rollercoaster of better sleep followed by worse sleep. Everything is temporary! Sleep development isn’t linear so just because he’s sleeping worse now than he was doesn’t mean he’ll stay like that forever. I’d say just ride it out and try to find ways to get more rest in the current situation, things are likely to improve on their own eventually!

Typically 8-10 months is the worst period of sleep in the first year and things usually start improving pretty consistently by 11 months. Squeeze in a nap and reassure yourself that this is just a blip!

I would leave his dummy for now as his poorly. Chances are once his better he will settle again but like the previous reply sleep is very up and down and nothing lasts forever. Very few sleep well all the time and most sleep badly ! Mine didn't sleep well until 2 years old then it was a reliable good night sleep until poorly then all out the window again Try not to worry
