10yr old sleeping pattern differing

10 year old lives 50:50 between both of our homes and after years of unhappiness at not being here more - seems to be quite settled with the routine. Sleep, however, continues to be a strange pattern. When here, he will need woken for school at 7:30 and in the holidays and at the weekends he can easily sleep beyond 8. Earlier this week, he didn't rise until 9am. When he isn't home, however, he is always up at 6am. Regardless of whether it is a school day, the weekend, or a holiday it is always the same.

It is in bed by half 8 and lights out by 9 on a school night here and movie downstairs goes no later than half 9 on a weekend. When not here, I am told it is bed for 9:30 on a school night and 10 in the holidays. Not too much difference, really.

Just can't comprehend the difference in wake up. Wakes himself at 6am at one house and sleeps loads more at the other.

Any ideas? Beyond the thought that his bed is just more comfortable at home!

Probably sleeps longer in the house that is cooler

Sounds like stress and anxiety. I always wake up earlier if I am worried about something.

Or the window faces a different direction and gets the early sun at a different time. Or different neighbours have different routines and make noises at different times.

See, this is obviously the concerning part which I keep burying at the back of my head.

They are great suggestions, which based on our home now would make some sense as his bedroom is at the back of the house so he is undisturbed. However, this still would happen in our old house where he was at the front of the house. Granted he would be disturbed by the binmen once a week! So it could play some role but no matter where we are, he is always sleeping later than there.

Does the central heating come on at 6am? Sometimes it can make a racket.
