11 month settling woes...tears all round!

My 11 month old has real trouble settling at bed time and for naps. He cries so much each time and it's beginning to get me quite upset each and dreading bed times (I'm sure he dreads them too...)

We have quite a solid bed time routine (milk, story, lullaby, sleeping bag then cuddles) however as soon as I pop him down, he really really screams every time.

I've tried rocking him but he usually ends up pushing me away, staying with him and patting / stroking but he just keeps trying to stand up and carries on crying, and controlled crying but the time taken to settle shows no sign of reducing.

Usual timings are:

Wake at 7
Nap 1 at 10.30 (30 to 60 mins). He is starting to fight this nap so unsure if I need to extend the wake window here
Nap 2 is 3.5 hours after waking (30 mins if he had a long nap in morning, 60 mins if he had a short morning nap)
Bed at 7 and generally sleeps through

I just wanted to see if anyone has any tips on how I can try to get him to settle without all the stress for both of us!

Thanks
