DP and I have come up with the perfect solution to our toddler (and soon the new baby too) wanting to sleep in with us every night...

We're buying a bigger bed.

A super king size.

Sure, we won't have room for fripparies such as bedside tables, wardrobes etc, but it will be a small price to pay for a night's sleep!

Why didn't we think of this before?

Broccoli we did this and then it still wasn't enough so now we have a super king size AND a double, side by side

we are currently trying to replace our SK futon, actually - have you seen any good ones lately?

BroccoliSpears · 01/02/2008 17:23

Wow. A superking and a double side by side. How many children do you have??

fabby idea

BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG bedrooms you must have.

S1ur · 01/02/2008 17:27

Great plan. Many's the parent I've heard saying how they wished they'd save the money they spent on nursery furniture for a whopping big bed.

FrannyandZooey · 01/02/2008 17:28

oh Broccoli only one atm

but we had ds in with us until he was 3 and he was SO WRIGGLY, and I like a lot of space

the mattress is still there because we have nowhere else in the house to put it

and our bedroom is not especially large - 10 foot across - 10 foot of bed visiting children LOVE the bed jumping room

hoxtonchick · 01/02/2008 17:29

that's what we did. worked marvellously.

S1ur · 01/02/2008 17:31

How much do you think it'll be? Roughly?

We fancy one too, at the moment we have turned our kingsize round to give more width but then our poor little feet fall off the end of the bed

May go with the extra single mattress instead.

Yes F&Z! our mattress is on the floor atm and all children just love to bounce and chase and fall and tumble on it when they're over!

One of the reasons I change our sheets so often

BroccoliSpears · 01/02/2008 18:28

Slur - well I reckon you'd get a 6 foot frame for about £100, but you can spend anything from a couple of hundred to up in the thousands for the mattress.

Will probably look for a second hand bedframe though, so hopefully will get a bargain there.

We are doing the same, have 2 DSs, we are hoping to get a bed in the sales if we can.....
Wish we had done it sooner.

PortAndLemon · 01/02/2008 18:37

We have superking that manages us and DS (3). Not sure whether and where the baby will fit when she arrives, though... maybe she'll actually like sleeping on her own?

LazyLinePainterJane · 01/02/2008 18:49

We have SKsize bed. You will never be able to sleep in a smaller one again

Elephantsbreath · 03/02/2008 23:12

we have super kingsize PLUS ds's car bed monstrosity alongside - generally I end up in the car bed knees up to my chin

hunkermunker · 03/02/2008 23:15

When you say SK, how wide is that and where are you getting it from?

I've seen some 180cm ones in Ikea - lots of the others seem to be 160ish. And 20cms is a lot in bed terms, no?

Not unless you only have a bedroom in your house, Justabout

Fab idea. We are ttc and have just bought a SK bed (coincidentally!). I shall NOT be stressing about sleep routines this time around, let me tell you.

cadelaide · 03/02/2008 23:29

Now I was discussing this with dp the other day.
How about moving all furniture out of our room and having wall-to-wall mattress?
At the moment we have ds2 (18m) in every night, dd comes in about 2ish and makes up a bed across our feet, and ours is just a double bed.
