6 month old going from sleeping through to multiple wakings

Hi, my DD is 6 months and 10 days old and for the past week she has been waking up multiple times in the night and not settling for sometimes up to 2 hours!

For context she has slept through since she was 4 1/2 months old, no night feeds. I did give her a dream feed until 3 weeks ago but when she just started refusing the bottle I stopped. She is formula fed.

She has a regular nap routine (2-3 hours in the day) and a regular bedtime routine and always goes down fine. I put her down awake in her cot with a dummy/pacifier and she falls asleep herself, so I am confused and frustrated with what’s going on!

I don’t think she is teething either because she already has 2 teeth and she had completely different symptoms when they were coming through.

Do I need to drop her naps from 3 to 2? Any help or advice would be much appreciated!!

The best advice I ah e is that baby’s gonna baby. The first year of sleep is an inconsistent rollercoaster of periods of better sleep and then periods of total shitshow. You’re doing anything wrong! She might be working on a new skill and after a while of bad nights wakes up with 7 new syllables, or pulls to standing or whatever. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Sorry I don’t have better advice! You can always try experimenting with the nap schedule and daytime sleep, if your nights are already a crap shoot then it’s not like you’d be messing up something that’s going well 😅

Good god this app is glitchy for me today!

*best advice I HAVE
*you’re NOT doing anything wrong

Personally I wouldn't try dropping to two naps, it's too early. Sleep begets sleep and all that!!

Likely to be a phase that will pass. Do what you need to, to get more rest and get through it.

Idk, my 6.5 month old has been mostly only having 2 naps for a couple weeks now and he dropped the last nap himself. If we’re out and about and he’s only doing short naps then he’ll have 3, but at home and if his naps are longer he only does 2, totalling around 2-2.5 hours of daytime sleep. Sleep begets sleep only if that’s what your baby needs. Mine has always been lower sleep needs. If his naps are longer then bedtime is later and nighttime is 10 hours but shorter naps and earlier bedtime gets us 11 hours from bedtime until morning start (with 3-4 wake ups)

I would try dropping to 2 naps. My boy went to 2 naps just before he turned 6 months. I’m going to disagree with a PP who says sleep breeds sleep: we only need a certain about of sleep in 24 hours and as babies get older that need changes and this could be their way of telling you. I would try dropping the final nap of the day and doing an earlier bed time.

if the nap thing doesn’t work, has anything else changed? New cot? New room? Is she going through the 4 month regression late?

if she’s been a fantastic sleeper til now I’d put my bet on her needing less now she’s getting older and put her on 2 naps

Could baby be cold?

I only ask as I've been having this problem with my 7 month old (for like 3-4 weeks). We went to my parents they had the heating on a few hours before bed and he slept much better.

Granted, he's now teething again so that solution didn't last long 😆
