Hi… I’m new to mumsnet so please forgive me if I don’t know all the protocol.
My 12 month old has suddenly started waking at 4.30/5am in the morning and I have no idea why.
It has been suggested that it may be because he is ready to transition from 2 naps to 1 nap -however I have tried this a few times and he is just so tired in the day and will still happily go for 2 naps with no fuss. He has about 2hrs total of nap time in the day.
To add - he is generally well in himself.

Has anyone had experience of this with their 12 month old? Any tips please?

We only had one nap at that age, but still went through this. It settled down in a few weeks.

Yes been there. Time for one nap. Obviously he’s tired enough in the day to have 2 when he woke up at 4.30/5am but somehow you have to break the cycle. Push him through the morning as best you can- go to the playground or something and be active, the first day you might need to do something like a nap at 11am (snack before, lunch after) then bed at 6pm. Then once you’ve got him sleeping 12 hours ish at night again you can gradually nudge everything forward by 15 mins each day until you’re back on a 7-7 or whatever your desired schedule is.

Thank you - did it stop the extremely early waking for you? ( well eventually once you got into new routine)

Yes! For about 10 months then back to it again so now we’re in the thick of the drop the nap completely transition 😬

@FlounderingFruitcake Oh gosh! Well good luck for a smooth no nap transition!

It happened to us with our first and lasted from 10-18 months. It was hell. Now our 10 month old has been doing it from 6 months so we are in a new hell!

Oh no.. it's very frustrating isn't it!
I'm hoping that it's just a sign that he's ready to go to 1 nap in the day now!... we shall see!
