Baby with cold won't sleep

I feel like I'm losing my mind.

My baby is 6 months old, has never slept through and that's fine; would normally go down around 7pm have a dream feed at 1030pm wake around 3/4 am then sleep til around 630/7am.
Until 2 weeks ago.

He starting cutting his first tooth and he would wake up every 1-1.5 hrs and about 5 days ago he got a cold, that he still has. He is completely congested, has had an on and off temperature (now been consistently down more than 24hrs) and will occasionally cough that sounds quite barking. He is napping on us in the day very well (maybe even too well...)

But when it comes to the evening I'll feed him to sleep but any attempt to put him in his crib results in tears. I've tried co sleeping in my bed the past 2 nights and the first night he slept around 4 hours straight, last night he just would not settle or sleep at all and I am knackered.

Will this get better once his cold clears or am I screwed?

Any tips or words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Have you tried:
Nasal aspiration
Calpol / ibuprofen regularly throughout night
Olbas oil on muslin next to cot or calpol plug in

Hopefully will settle soon. Is he in a next to me,could you tilt it?

What worked for us was, snot sucker, nasal spray, humidifier in the room, bath before bed - shower is a separate unit so we also run that for steam, one of us shower while the other bathed baby.

Thanks for the suggestions; I've got a vapour plug to try tonight to see if that helps.

I figured out last night he will go off and stay off if he's on his side, which is probably more comfortable with his cold.

I know I can't put him down to sleep in that position, which is a real shame, just need to will him to get into it himself as he can roll both ways.

He's a 6 month old who can roll both ways so of course you can put him down on his side.
