Is it time for the 3 to 2 nap transition?

Hello, I’m new to mumsnet and just looking for some advice please!

My LO is 6 months old next week and he has been having 3 naps for quite a while now. He used to wake up for the day around 6.45/7 but he’s now starting to wake up earlier (this morning it was 5.30). At the moment his sleep goes roughly like this although it does vary day by day:

Somewhere around 6am - wake up
8.30am ish - 1st nap for up to 90 mins
12pm ish - 2nd nap for up to 90/120 mins
4/4.30pm ish - 3rd nap for maybe 30 mins

He used to only nap for around 45 minutes but over the last couple weeks his naps have become much longer! He has also been fighting his 3rd nap occasionally and waking a little more at night.

I was just wondering if anyone has any advice on whether he needs to transition to 2 naps now?

thank you 😊

I would cut day time sleep rather than third nap and see if that helps, as it's young to cut third nap and might lead to overtiredness. I think he has more than recommended day time sleep. My baby is the same age and sleeps for about 35 minutes about 2 hours after waking (normally the nap starts at around 9:15 am). Then sleeps from around 12:30-2:15 pm and then has a cat nap of around 15 minutes at about 5 pm. I wake him from the naps.
Also, could hunger be an issue? Is he weaned?

Shorten the length of first nap otherwise they think that's still the night and the early mornings will continue. I think it's no more than 45-60 mins but you can check...
