How many naps does your 10 month old have?

How often do your 10 month olds nap?
My boy is 10 and a half months and has been having 2 naps a day since about 6 months. Roughly 1.5 hour morning and an hour in the afternoon. Bedtime is generally 730ish. We co sleep and breast feed and he’s not always been the best sleeper. The last week he seemed to have slept for a much longer stretch and is feeding less in the night. Since this change he has been fighting both his morning and afternoon naps.
I manage to get him to nap late morning so it eats into the afternoon. Some days he’s only had one nap and really tired by 6pm and other days he’s had 2 but a very short afternoon one. This has gone on for over a week now.
Is it time to go to one nap??

I have a 10 month old too and have also noticed changes in naps.
We usually do 1 nap in the morning which we allow her to sleep until she wakes naturally then an afternoon nap of an hour max. else she fights bedtime.
We have tried 1 long nap in the middle of the day but she gets too tired leading up to the nap and also after dinner and before bed.
This week we have tired 2 naps of an hour each which also works well.
I think it's a bit of trial and error. For me, 10 months is a bit young for 1 nap but 2 shorter naps works best for ours.
Good luck finding what works x

Long time ago now but DS had a 3 hr wake window between 5&11m so did 9:30-11 and 2-3:30 which was great nbecause I could meet friends for lunch without sodding up the schedule. At 11m we started transitioning to 1 long nap took a while though.

When my boy was 10mo we did a morning nap around 9am (2.5 hrs after wake up) and I'd keep that one short and reduced it over time.
Then he would nap from 1pm ish - 2.30pm/3pm

You will need to look at gradually reducing one of them to shift the main nap towards the middle of the day

Thank you for your response. Think I could try 2 shorter naps but hate the idea of waking him up as he ends up still grumpy when I've done that. I like the idea of 1 nap but only if he's ready for that. He does sleep 11-12 hours at night so gets most of his sleep through the night. He doesn't sleep through though. Does your little one eat solids well?

This sounds similar to how it's been for us. From 6 months it's roughly been wake about 7, nap at 930/10 and another afternoon nap at 2ish. It's worked well and generally the same each day. But there's been a shift with him and he can suddenly stay awake much longer. Afternoon nap has been none existent today and he was awake from 1230 until 730pm

@lottie198 if your baby is getting lots of sleep through the night then it might be ok to drop to one nap or 2 shorter ones. Although 1 might be better if you don't like waking him (I dont either really but it really effects bedtime if I dont).
My baby eats 2 meals a day but I spoon feed currently so I know what she is having. Looking to move to her feeding herself soon so no doubt things will change again.
All I know about babies is that no two are the same and everything changes so quickly - they keep us on our toes for sure 😊

DS is 14 months now but has been on one nap since 10.5-11months.

For about two weeks he would have 1 nap some days and 2 naps other days and would just go to bed earlier on 1 nap
days (bedtime around 6pm if he had 1 nap
and around 8/9pm on 2 nap days). After about 2 weeks he was solidly on 1 nap and about another 2 weeks until we were able to push bedtime back to his previous ‘normal’. So since 11.5 months he has been napping 12-2pm with a 7/8pm bedtime (he wakes around 6/7am and doesn’t yet sleep through).

We are flexible though so if he has an early or late nap we adjust bedtime accordingly. He normally has a 5-6hour wake window but it’s not unknown for him to have 7-8hours of awake time so we just follow his lead. I didn’t really do anything, just let him sleep when tired and his routine just naturally came.
