transition from hammock to cot - any advice?

My DD has just turned one and is outgrowing her Amby hammock so I need to move her into her cot. She just screams when I put her in there though! I've tried moving her when she's asleep and she wakes up and cries. If anyone has any advice I'd be very grateful. I've googled for ages and can't find anything useful!

no advice but I will be in the same situation soon.... I was thinking about moving straight to a bed?

Gosh, you've done well to last so long, mine escaped long before that!

DD2 was not a problem. She likes to sleep on her side and was finally able to.

DD1 we had to persuade her that the cot was ok, so we had some afternoons in her room, her in the cot, me lobbing toys in, her lobbing them out. Once she had an ok reaction to the cot, then we worked on the sleeping part!

Thanks for the replies!

We've used the cot as a play pen for a few weeks so she's happy in there and we've gone for it tonight as the naps didn't work. It's taken just over two hours but I think she's finally gone off. I want to go in and see what position she's in but I don't want to wake her!

How old is your LO theprecious?

We found that both of our two objected massively to the 'cage' after being in the Amby. We ended up moving both into their own bed - dd1 at around 9 months. It just wasn't a big deal and far easier than a cot. We put a duvet on the floor beside her bed and she rolled out a couple of times but soon learnt to just get out her bed herself and then crawl into our room if she needed us. Amby are great but I have to the say the transistion from amby to bed/cot was pretty hellish - both mine went from sleeping through the night from about 3 months old to being very poor sleepers when they left the Amby. It took some time to make the transistion. Good luck.

Wow, a bed at 9 months! I'm sorry to hear your LOs sleeping got worse. That was my worry.

Other than the two hours on the first night it's been fine - she's sleeping really well in there and settles herself. I think she's more comfortable as she was getting too heavy for the amby. It's really weird seeing her sleeping on her front!

She wont nap in the cot though but I'm sure that'll come.

good luck aspidistra!

My ds is 7mths but quite big. I think we will go straight to a bed just otherwise we might as well have used the cot from the start.

Thanks for the warning Jenkeywoo (cool name btw). I will bear it in mind when we have to change.

I think ds isn't a great sleeper so the Amby has really helped. It will be interesting to see how we get on in a bed

I think it took ds3 2 nights to make the transition. BUt we moved him from the amby as he was trying to sleep on his front so had started to wake up again (he was 10 months). Did find him trying to bounce his cot a few times, but he transitioned quite easily in the end.
