4 month old fights naps

My 4-month-old DS has always been a good sleeper but recently if we go out during the day he fights sleep because I guess there's too much to look at. As a result by about 5 - 6pm he is over-tired and very grumpy. He starts crying and nothing can console him. Usually he will settle between 7 - 8pm for his night time sleep so it's not really too much of a problem, but I'm just wondering if the fact that his curiosity is affecting his naps is common in other babies. And should I try and cut down his daytime outings because of it. When he's at home he is better because when he's tired I just put him in his cot and shut the curtains for him to nap.

Snap snowmoon - ds has recently decided naps are for wusses, I think. I've discovered that putting him in his car seat & rocking him does the trick...he gives me a dirty look before he conks out tho'!

My dd is 4.5 months old and sleeps ok. I don't let her have more than 3 hours sleep during the day and wake her up, with no problems. I always plan my trips out to the shops etc in between sleep/feed times, generally finding it best to go out first thing in the morning or in the later afternoon. I also try not to over stimulate with noise/toys when I know sleep time is due and find this makes a real difference.
