Baby waking early

My son turned 4 months on 14 October. He has been a great sleeper in general. He is always down by 7pm, has a dream feed (FF) around 10:30pm and until now has slept until 6-7am. For the last few nights he has consistently been waking up around 4am and refuses to settle back to sleep! He starts of just talking (babbling) in his crib and then starts crying a little. He has also become extremely fussy throughout the day, crying much more and generally not seeming settled. Is this sleep regression? If so, any tips? Should I feed him when he wakes up that early? I know shouldn't complain as he still has a great stretch of sleep but having experienced him sleeping through until 6-7am for weeks now, I am wondering what is happening!

The most likely explanation is that he's hungry at 4am. I'd absolutely be giving him milk then as soon as possible, likelihood is that he will have some milk and then go back down for sleep shortly after. Babies feeding, sleep, and growth cyces change all the time as they grow and develop. Around 4 months is the infamous '4 month sleep regression' where their sleep cycles change so sleep typically alters. Milk would be the first thing I'd be trying, give him a bottle as soon as he starts to stir and see if you can get him back down to sleep again before he's fully woke. Ime it's more difficult to get them back off to sleep the longer they're awake/the more agitated they get, better to get in there quickly with the milk.
