Give dummy in sleep regression or not?

DS 3 months seems to have hit his sleep regression early. See my previous post for the long details but he has gone from one wake in the night for milk to multiple wakes. He has never had a dummy at night time but has always had it for his day time naps. In the last week since he has been waking we have had to use the dummy as it’s the only way to get him to resettle in his cot and I really don’t want to start picking him up and rocking cos I feel like that is going backwards, he is now never rocked to sleep he naps in his pram and he falls asleep after his feed once propped up (has silent reflux so I can’t put him down awake like some people suggest). Anyway back to the point, we have had to start using the dummy to get him to self settle in his cot but then if he wakes again he wants it back. Does he actually wake cos he wants it back or is he just waking anyway due to the change in sleep cycles? Am I making a rod for my own back by introducing a dummy at night time when previously he hasn’t had it? At the moment it’s the only way for us to get any sleep. I just have no other idea how to get him to resettle in his cot and not being held, I’ve tried sshh and Pat but it just doesn’t work without the dummy.

Hi, I realise this is an old post but I am going through a near identical situation. How did you get on? Are you out on the other side of the regression now?

@Scummy0mummy I’m so sorry I’ve only just seen your comment. My son is almost 9 months now, and yes we did finally get out of the regression but it was long! About 6-8 weeks! We ended up taking the dummy away and working on his self settling, sitting with him doing sshh pat it took a good week or so but it worked, when he didn’t have the crutch of the dummy or feeding to sleep he learnt to self settle when he woke between cycles. I’m sorry you’re going through this it’s so so hard!

Sleep regression is a period when a baby who's been sleeping well suddenly has trouble sleeping. It's connections nyt common at various developmental stages, typically occurring around 4 months, 8-10 months, and 18 months.
