How much sleep for a 19 month-old?

I'm just wondering how much sleep other 19 month-olds need. Basically, DS has been a very good sleeper up until recently. He wakes sometime between 7 and 8am, naps between 1:30 and 3:00, and would go to sleep around 7:30pm. We have a consistent bedtime routime of bath, storytime, lullabies and bed, and he would go into his cot awake at 7pm and then quite happily settle himself sometime between 7:15 and 7:30. All of a sudden, however, he gets so upset at bedtime and won't fall asleep until 8:30 or 9:00, and last night it was close to 10:00pm! We have had a lot of upheaveal in our lives recently and I think he's been picking up on my and DH's stress, but I'm wondering if maybe we're putting him to bed too early? Sorry this is long! Thanks.

dd is 2 in a couple of weeks. She gets up around 7:45. naps 1.5 hours, usually from about 1. goes to bed between 7 and 7:30.

He's just at that age when he KNOWS you and dh are having more fun than him when he goes to bed, and wants to share in it!

Some need much more sleep than others- dd has friends who get up around 6, don't nap, and go to bed around 9pm. They're on the go all day too- no flagging.

Stick to the routine, and hopefully he'll settle down again soon.

I know how hard it can be though, so you have my every sympathy.

EachPeachPearMum: Fantastic name, by the way! That's one of DS's favourite books. Thanks for the advice. That's what I was thinking, but then maybe started to second guess myself. I do think he needs that much sleep- and we need our evenings!

At that age dd would go to bed at 8, get up at 6, and nap for about an hour in the afternoon. Now she's 23 months and goes to bed anywhere between 8 and 9 (though we aim for 8), gets up between 6:30 and 7 most days, though may occasionally lie in til 7:30, and doesn't usually nap during the day.
